Basic Body Pattern Crochet

Hello lads and ladies! I’ve made a resolution to post at least one article each week on HappyCheeseCake. As you can see, this is the first post and taking into account the date, I’ve been pretty slack.

But that’s about to change. Everything changes with the first post.

I’ve decided to share with everyone a pattern that took me endless hours of searching but did not find one that suited what I had in mind – a basic body. I wanted something that is cute and chibi like, something to suit as a Christmas present but not too big to make since I’m making eleven of them.

Why eleven? I hear you ask. Because there are eleven doctors – the perfect handmade gift for a Doctor Who fan.

A friend recently got me into crocheting . I also got a book and the hooks as an early Christmas present. I guess it’s a subtle hint that I must put these two items to good usage. The book however, only had patterns for animal critters such as pandas and rabbits and nothing on a simple, human shaped body.

Now, making your own pattern is not an easy feat and it took me countless hours to figure this one out. Do note that I’ve only started crocheting after my exams, which was sometime in November, so it hasn’t been that long.

Any way, below are some pictures of what the end product looks like and the pattern. I hope like it and find this post helpful. Once you have all the parts made, just stitch them together with a needle using the same coloured wool.

Here is the front view of a basic body. It’s about as tall as a chocolate box, about 8cm/3 inches tall.

A side view shot for your enjoyment. The only problem is that I can’t get it to stand up by itself with some sort of support.

The doctor with pins still in him

But the problem is solved when I gave him clothes. The felt pants gives him all the footing support he needs. I know he’s got pins in him but that’s because tacky glue takes ages to dry on felt.
